Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash Makes 15-Second Clips, 30% Cheaper

Longer clips, chat-style edits and product references that hold their shape, plus three free videos a month in Vids.

Google DeepMind released Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash on November 5, a video model that makes clips up to 15 seconds long, where the last version stopped at 10.

It’s cheaper too. Google DeepMind’s announcement puts the price 30% below Omni 1.1, at $0.07 per second of 720p video.

Making product promos for your store?

You can try Omni 1.2 Flash in Google Vids at no cost with your own Google account, so your first 15-second clip costs you nothing but the time it takes to write a prompt.

What changed in Omni 1.2 Flash

You set the length in one-second steps, from 3 to 15 seconds.

Google pitches the extra time as room for a complete story, a product explainer or a full social ad spot, all in a single generation.

But the bigger change for your brand is references. You can feed it:

  • Character, product or style images
  • Motion clips of up to three seconds
  • Audio cues, like a one-second voice sample for each character

Google says faces, packaging text and brand colours stay consistent across camera angles. Its demo turns one model photo and three outfits into a 15-second try-on clip.

Then there’s editing by conversation. You ask for a new background or a different aspect ratio, and the model edits your clip instead of starting over.

That’s also how Google suggests you keep the bill down:

  • Draft at 360p or 720p
  • Fix a detail with a follow-up edit, so you don’t pay for a fresh generation
  • Upscale only the clip you keep, to 1080p or 4K

Speech got better as well, with more natural dialogue, clearer lip-sync and separate voices for several speakers, whether you direct a scene in Flow or make an explainer in Vids.

Every clip carries an invisible SynthID watermark, as The Decoder notes.

Where you can use it

What do you get free? You get up to three 15-second clips a month in Google Vids with a Google account or a Workspace subscription.

That’s enough for a real test.

Beyond Vids, Omni 1.2 Flash is generally available in the Gemini API and on Google Cloud, where bigger teams can also buy Provisioned Throughput, and it’s rolling out to:

  • Google AI Studio and Flow
  • Google Ads, for video campaigns
  • The Gemini app, for Google AI Ultra subscribers

Still, Google is open about the gaps. It says it’s still working on fast sports action, rapid script changes and complex physics.

Why it matters

So who is this for? If you run a small brand or a creator channel that needs short video every week, without a shoot every time, it’s for you.

The maths is simple. At $0.07 a second, a 15-second 720p clip costs you about $1.05 through the API.

The reference feature is the part I’d test first. Upload photos of your own products and check whether the label survives a camera move.

A misspelled label is what makes a 15-second clip look fake.

Running ads on Google already? Omni is coming to Google Ads too, so I’d expect more AI-made video in the auctions you bid in.

That said, my read is that real footage of your real customers gets worth more once everyone can make the polished version for about a dollar.

Here are the three things I’d do this week:

Either way, judge it on your own products.
