Perplexity Launches Teammates, Always-On Agents for Work
Each one keeps its own thread, browser and memory, takes jobs in Slack, and comes with the $200-a-month Max plan.

Perplexity has launched Teammates, AI agents that take over ongoing work instead of answering one prompt at a time. They’re live on the web for Perplexity Max subscribers.
You can hand one your ads, your SEO or your support inbox. It keeps working after you close the chat.
Each teammate runs on top of Perplexity Computer, the company’s agent system. So think of it as a junior hire you brief once, check on now and then, and correct when it drifts.
What a teammate does
You give a teammate a name, a job and the tools it may touch. Setup runs through plugins like Slack, GitHub and Gmail, per the Perplexity announcement.
Then you write a short brief. Where does the work come from, what should it deliver, and when should it act?
It remembers. Your goals, task history and files carry across runs.
Perplexity lists jobs a teammate can take on without waiting for you:
- Watch a campaign and draft a fix when results slip
- Notice a regular customer going quiet and prepare an offer for your approval
- Chase missing items when a deadline is 72 hours away
- Pass work to another teammate, like a bug finder handing its findings to a fixer
Each one gets its own desktop, its own browser and a thread in your sidebar that never closes, says the Teammates product page.
You can read what it did, step into its desktop halfway through a task, or tell it in plain words that the plan has changed and it should do something else.
The marketing teammate
If you run a site, read this bit closely.
Perplexity’s marketing example runs your social posts, email, ads, SEO and review replies.
It also checks competitors’ prices and promotions every week.
When a campaign slips, it drafts a fix. If a competitor starts a sale on something you sell, it tells you what changed and suggests a response.
Your colleagues can add a teammate to a Slack channel and hand it work there.
Saved logins are encrypted. Each teammate’s browsing sessions and cookies stay separate from the ones your other teammates use.
What it costs and who gets it
Teammates need the Max plan, which The Verge puts at $200/month. Here’s the rest:
- Free Teammates usage on Max for a promotional period, with no end date given
- After that, the monthly credits your Max plan already includes
- Web only for now, with iOS and Android apps promised but undated
The Verge lines it up with OpenAI’s Dots and Anthropic’s Claude Duet agent. Both also take on several jobs at once.
That said, the ambition is big. CEO Aravind Srinivas wrote on X that he sees “every org having hundreds of teammates working for each person”.
Why it matters
Every big AI company now sells the same idea. An agent owns a job. Perplexity’s showcase is a one-person shop staffed by four agents, so it’s aimed squarely at you if you work alone.
Should you try it? If you already pay for Max, yes.
You lose nothing during the free period, and a week of watching one teammate work will tell you more about where agents stand than any launch post or demo video can.
Here’s how I’d start:
- Give one teammate a single narrow job, like weekly competitor price checks
- Read its thread every day for two weeks
- Widen the job only once its work holds up
But be careful with anything that spends your money or talks to your customers. The demo shows an agent pausing ad sets on its own.
Keep approvals on for ad budgets and outreach. I’d trust it with research long before I’d trust it with your ad account.
There’s a second angle if you run a site.
In practice, these agents browse the web with real browsers of their own, so more of the visitors landing on your pages will be software working for someone.
Still, you can watch them. Microsoft Clarity’s agent analytics show what they do on your pages.
And is $200 a month worth it for you? For a solo founder who’d otherwise hire help, maybe. For a blogger with one newsletter, I don’t think so.
Common Questions
What are Perplexity Teammates?
Perplexity Teammates are AI agents that own ongoing work, such as running ad campaigns, tracking competitors or triaging bug reports. Each keeps a permanent thread, its own browser and a memory of past tasks.
How much do Perplexity Teammates cost?
Teammates need a Perplexity Max subscription, which The Verge reports costs $200 a month. Max includes free Teammates usage for a promotional period, after which they use the plan’s monthly credits.
Can I use Perplexity Teammates on my phone?
Not yet. Teammates launched on the web only, and Perplexity says iOS and Android versions are coming without giving a date.
