Reddit splits its home feed into For You and Following
Recommendations get a prime slot, so your posts may reach more than the people who follow your community.

Reddit is splitting its home feed into For You and Following. If you post there for a brand or your own site, your next post may land in front of people who never followed you.
What’s changing
Following shows only posts from the subreddits you follow, Tubefilter reports.
For You is the new part. It pulls from a wide selection of Reddit’s 138,000 active subreddits.
That mix isn’t entirely new: Redditors have seen posts from subreddits they don’t follow for years, Tubefilter notes, and Reddit’s videos already look more like TikToks.
Reddit’s own pitch, in a company blog post Tubefilter quotes, is that good recommendations should carry people from an interest into a community, and from there into a conversation.
But which feed opens first? The two sources split:
- Tubefilter says For You is the default.
- Social Media Today says For You gets the primary slot, yet the app opens on whichever feed you last viewed.
Either way, check your own app once the update lands. Reddit says the feed will roll out globally over the next few weeks.
Reddit says it’s still experimenting with more feed controls, like hiding posts.
Social Media Today adds a caveat. It thinks the feed might be short-lived if proposals for algorithm opt-outs gain momentum.
Why it matters
My read: if For You gets the first slot, more of your reach will come from strangers. That’s a guess. Tubefilter and Social Media Today both skip traffic data.
Do you run a brand account or a community? I’d stop treating your member count as your whole audience.
Still, a bigger audience can be a colder one, and I think people who never chose to follow you will judge each post on its own merits, with little patience for a pushy brand post.
In practice, here are three things I’d check this week:
- Titles: write them for someone who’s never seen your subreddit.
- Context: spell out what a newcomer needs instead of assuming they’ve read your sidebar or rules.
- Baseline: log your Reddit views, comments and site visits now, so you can compare once the update reaches everyone.
How will you measure reach after that? Neither source says Reddit will report the two feeds separately, so plan to track it yourself.
So write for strangers. Your community is where the post should lead them.
Common Questions
What is Reddit’s For You feed?
It’s an algorithm-driven feed Reddit announced on 28 October 2026. It shows recommended posts and subreddits to join, beside a Following feed of the communities you already follow, and it rolls out globally over the next few weeks.
Is For You the default Reddit home feed?
The sources disagree. Tubefilter says For You is the default, while Social Media Today says it gets the primary slot but the app opens on whichever feed you last viewed.
Can my Reddit posts show up for people who don’t follow my subreddit?
They can. Tubefilter says For You draws on a wide selection of Reddit’s 138,000 active subreddits, though neither source explains how posts get picked.
